MAY IS ALL ABOUT HEART HEALTH AT PHP
Tomorrow is the first day of Heart Week for 2022 (Monday 2 to Sunday 8 May). At Premier Health Partners, we will be focussing on heart health for the entire month of May with specific health checks available to our patients.
Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia. Many heart attacks and strokes can be prevented through healthy behaviours like eating a heart healthy diet, being active, maintaining
a healthy weight and being smoke free. Many people may not know their risk of developing heart disease, especially since you often can’t feel risk factors like high blood pressure and cholesterol. Having a Heart Health Check is an important first step to protecting your heart (heartfoundation.org.au).
Our GPs will be conducting Heart Health Checks that will be bulk-billed for eligible patients*. These are 20-minute sessions that work to assess your risk of having a heart attack or stroke in the next five years. Heart Health Checks include discussion, assessment, and planning, so that you leave feeling informed and supported. These appointments can be booked through our website or by calling reception.
Our Exercise Physiologists will also be offering free, 15-minute sessions where they will conduct the ‘Queen’s College Step Test’. This is a three-minute step test that measures VO2max, which is an indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance.
These sessions are available to be booked every Friday in May between 1 and 4pm; contact Wynter via 0410 404 240 or email info@melbourneyogaandpilates.com to book.
Don’t hesitate to contact our team if you have any questions.
*There are three criteria that must be met for a patient to be eligible for a Heart Health Check. The patient must:
- be 45 years or over (30 years or over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people)
- have no history of cardiovascular disease, and
- have not had another health assessment in the last 12 months
